The Comanche County Facilities Authority held a brief meeting Wednesday morning

LAWTON – Two state agencies are taking steps to remove as many inmates as possible from the Comanche County Detention Center until the coronavirus that has ravaged the jail is brought under control.

LAWTON – In light of the meeting restrictions put in place by state and local officials concerning the COVID- 19 coronavirus pandemic, the Comanche County Republican Party and the Great Plains Republican Women are canceling their meetings for the month of May.

Visitors Andy, Leigh and Fisher Duvall decided it was time for an outdoor family trip to the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge on Friday, April 10. Between school and work being conducted online at home in Dallas, Texas, and inclement weather predicted over the weekend, the trio came to WMWR to “take a break from technology and get some fresh air.” Turning several boulders into a makeshift picnic area, the family stretched out with Mo the dog and enjoyed lunch after hiking several trails earlier in the day.

WMWR - The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently announced the temporary closure of two areas within Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge because service managers cannot at this time protect the health and safety of its employees or visitors to these parts of the refuge.

The Army's Basic Combat Training (BCT)

FORT SILL – The U.S. Army has temporarily delayed the movement of future Soldiers to Basic Combat Training (BCT), effective April 6.

The announcement was issued by Maj. Gen. Ken Kamper, commander of the Fires Center of Excellence and Fort Sill.

The Comanche County Detention Center is located in downtown Lawton at 315 SW 5th St. Jail Administrator William Hobbs said there are 349 inmates housed at the CCDC.

LAWTON - Despite the fact that "social distancing" is unobtainable at the Comanche County Detention Center, jail officials say they have implemented safety guidelines for staff and inmates during the COVID-19 pandemic.
