Elgin sets 3rd of July event

The City of Elgin presents its 3rd of July Celebration at the Youth Sports Park in Elgin.

Events will include a kickball tournament with prizes, a car smash, dunk tank and other games.

Events will start at noon. The firework show will start at 9 p.m.

Admission is free. 

Soon-to-be senior at Fletcher High School Caleb Campbell stands with the nine boxes of canned goods donated at the Fletcher Dodgeball Tournament this year.

The Elgin, Fletcher and Sterling communities have always thrived by helping each other out in times of need, and 2021 is no different.

JUNE

  • Wednesday, June 2 – Sunday, June 6: Oklahoma High School Rodeo Finals; Chickasha, OK, Grady County Fairgrounds.

AND THEY’RE OFF: Riders start the ride for the Tour de Meers from the fire station located just north of the Meers restaurant.

After having to cancel the ride through the Wichita Mountains last year due to COVID-19 the tour took off again on Saturday, May 29.

A large turn out of riders were greeted with cloudy skies and cool tempera- tures to start the ride.

ELGIN — It was in 1928 that the first national Future Farmers of America (FFA) convention was held in Kansas City, Missouri. At that inaugural convention, delegates from Oklahoma were present, beginning a long tradition of excellence in agricultural education.

Two members of the Elgin Lady Owls soccer team were selected to the 2021 Oklahoma Soccer Coaches Association Class 4A Soccer All-State team.

 

Abby Dittmeyer and Delaney York picked up the post-season honors after this years soccer season was finished.
