Playoff season has arrived for Area teams

Elgin baseball Elgin 2, Fort Cobb 10

Elgin hosted Fort Cobb for Senior Night and came up on the short side of the scoreboard, losing to Fort Cobb 10-2.

Case Clemons, Wyatt Pyle, Braeden Morland, Zane Bridges and Josh Reniger all collected one hit for the Owls in the loss.

Elgin finishes the regular season with a 20-11 record and will travel to Oklahoma City on Thursday, April 29 to take on Mount Saint Mary’s in the Class 4A Bi-Distrcit tournament.

Games are scheduled for Thursday at 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m and the “if game” would be play on Friday, April 30 at 4:00 p.m., if needed.

Elgin softball Elgin 3, Dickson 21 Elgin 4, Plainview 17

Elgin’s Lady Owls softball team saw their first season of slow-pitch softball come to an end at the District Tournament on Thursday, April 22. Elgin drew the Dickson Lady Comets in the first round and Dickson got started early, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Lady Owls fought back in the top of the second inning scoring three runs of their own to tie the game at 3-3.

Dickson exploded for 18 runs in the bottom of the second inning and held Elgin in the top of the third inning to take the 21-3 win.

Kaylee Craig, Kegyn Wendel, Nikkayla Cadiz and Kayla Jones all had one hit for Elgin.

Game two on Thursday, April 22 pitted Elgin against Plainview.

Elgin scored one run in the top of the first inning before Plainview answered with eight runs.

The Lady Owls picked up more runs in the second and third innings but the runs were not enough as Plainview stayed hot and walked away with the 17-4 win.

Elgin finished their first season in slow pitch with the record of 7-21.
