WATONGA - Lack of sleep may be to blame when a Cement man lost his life in a semi truck accident on Tuesday.

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol collision report written by Trooper Ray Robertson stated that, Jerry Wayne Smith, 48, of Cement, died at OU Medical Center due to injuries he sustained in a single-vehicle accident.

According to the provided information, the 1999 Freightliner semi, driven by Jerry, had been traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 270, just north of EW860 County Road and less than five miles south of Watonga in Blaine County, at about 6:30 a.m. on July 2.

The report indicates that the semi left the edge of the highway to the west, onto the median, then struck a creek embankment before rolling over.
