CEMENT - Memorial service for Stephen Pennel Sr., 67, of Cement, was held Saturday, July 27, 2019, at the Cement High School Auditorium.
Stephen Ray Pennel Sr. was born Dec. 5, 1951, in Bakersfield, Calif., to John and Ruby (White) Pennel. He grew up in Bakersfield where he attended Foothill High School.
Between his junior and senior year, Stephen was drafted into the United States Army where he served his country during the Vietnam War. He met and married Linda Dixon on August 7, 1970. The couple was just shy of having their 49th wedding anniversary.
They moved to Cement, where they lived from 1980-1987. During their time in Oklahoma, Stephen worked as a barn and fence builder and a welder.
He and Linda moved back to Bakersfield where he went to work for Miller Beer. They moved back to Cement in 2012. Stephen enjoyed fishing and hunting.
While in California, he started the Hardass Gun Club and then upon returning to Oklahoma, started a chapter locally.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Pennel, of the home; two sons: Stephen Pennel Jr. and his wife Shelly; and Jason Pennel and his wife Carmen, all of Cement; his mother, Ruby Pennel, of Chickasha; seven grandchildren: Shelbe Horton and her husband Tyler; Seth Pennel and his wife Kylee; Sawyer James and her husband Ethan; Airyn Cobb and her husband Cody; Baylie Pennel; Saige Pennel; and Colton Pennel; and six greatgrandchildren: Landon, Jordan, and Zachary Horton; Ryce Pennel, Emeri Cobb and Seth Pennel Jr.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Pennel Jr. and two brothers: William and Jimmie Pennel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Stephen’s name to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
