LAWTON — Ollie's Bargain Outlet 410 All Star Sprint Car Series rolled back into Lawton on Monday, June 8, for some unfinished business.
The race was originally scheduled for Thursday, June 4, but Oklahoma’s weather had other plans. The drivers and teams were able to get hot laps and qualifying in before the storms rolled into town. A gust front blew through the speedway with high winds making it unsafe to start the race.
The promoters were waiting out the wind when the rain started to fall, canceling the night. When action got started again on a hot Monday evening, Danny Dietrich was the fastest qualifier with a blistering lap of 13.150. The heat winners of the night were Brock Zearfoss in Heat 1, Cory Ellia- son took heat 2 and the final winner in Heat 3 was Justin Sanders.
Aaron Reutzel won the Qualifying Dash, which sets the front four rows of the feature, giving Aaron the pole for the “A” feature. After two attempts at getting the feature started, there was finally a green flag lap recorded. Aaron Reutzel led the first 12 laps of the race on the dusty, dry racetrack.
Kyle Larson charged from his starting fourth place position into second place before the first lap of the race was finished.
He finally tracked down Aaron and threw an amazing slide job to take the lead coming out of turn four. Kyle led the next 15 laps until a yellow flag was thrown. Before the flag dropped again a red flag was thrown to refuel the cars and make minor adjustments, which all had to be done in under two minutes.
He then got the jump on the restart and despite three attempts by Aaron to return the slide job favor, Kyle held on and won the 40-Lap Feature at the Lawton Speedway.
