ELGIN - Memorial service for Ret. SFC Rodney Lee Gwin was held Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019, in the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel with Jerome Burris officiating. Placement of the urn with full military honors was conducted Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019, in the Fort Sill National Rodney Lee Cemetery Columbarium, Elgin. Ret. SFC Rodney Lee Gwin, 72, Elgin, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019, at his home in Elgin. He was born Nov. 29, 1946, in Richmond, Ind. to Edwin Lee and Wilma L. (Cablinger) Gwin. He was born in Indiana but raised in Dallas, Texas. Rodney later joined the United States Army and served in Vietnam, Alaska, Germany, Texas, and Oklahoma before retiring in 1988. He married Martha Nesbit on Sept. 12, 1969, in Dal- las, Texas, and the couple had recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary together. He had a love for fishing, family, and friends. Rodney was able to maintain his sense of humor until his very last day. He will be missed by all. Rodney is survived by his wife of the home; three sons: James David Gwin and wife Rebecca; Jason Edward Lee; and Jacob Andrew Gwin all of Elgin;, six grandchildren: Travis Anthony Gwin Bates of Kingman, Ariz.; Hannah Gwin and Desiree Alexandra, both of Nashville, Tenn.; Morgan, Andrew and Holden Harless, all of Elgin; a great-grandchild, Kiah Niome; two brothers: Richard Gwin and wife Vera of Buford, S.C.; and David Gwin of Frisco, Texas; a sister, Janet Laswell of Richmond, Ind.; and many other family members. Rodney was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara Simon.
