WICHITA MOUNTAINS WILDLIFE REFUGE - Its time for the 76th annual longhorn sale in Apache and will be held on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, at Stockman Oklahoma Livestock Marketing, Inc. (Apache Auction Market). Stockman Oklahoma Livestock Marketing is located 0.75 miles northwest of Apache, off Highway 19. Sale of Refuge longhorns will begin between 1:00 – 2:00 pm.

Approximately 85 animals will be available, including mature cows, two-year-old bulls, yearlings, and calves. All sale animals may be viewed at the Market between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Sept. 11, 2019. All longhorns being sold are registered with or subject for registration with the Texas Longhorn Breeders Association of America (TLBAA), International Texas Longhorn Association (ITLA), and the Cattleman’s Texas Longhorn Registry (CTLR).

Contact Dan McDonald (daniel_t_ mcdonald@fws.gov) to obtain registration paperwork or to obtain documentation of registered longhorns after purchase. All adult cows and bulls have been tested negative for brucellosis. Heifer calves have been vaccinated against brucellosis with the RB-51 vaccine. All bull and heifer calves have been vaccinated against the blackleg disease.
Health certificates required for interstate shipment of cows and calves will be provided by a veterinarian following the auction. Breeding age bulls (~2 years old) will have tested negative for Trichomoniasis. Prospective buyers should be familiar with their state’s requirements for importing cattle from Oklahoma.
