Many Oklahomans will remember the bumper stickers that adorned countless vehicles in the oil patch during the hard times of the 1980s that read, “Please God, just give me one more oil boom. I promise not to blow it next time” – typically with more colorful variations.

For lawmakers approaching the 2019 session, it may feel like the wildcatters’ perennial prayer has been answered. After a decade of ongoing shortfalls and repeated cuts to core services, state finances are finally in recovery, thanks to a strong economy and bold decisions made by legislators last year.
