PORTER HILL - Out of operation for the past several weeks due to legal issues, the Porter Hill Volunteer Fire Department is now under new administration and big changes are being made that could allow the department to be back in service soon.
With a new Fire Chief, Mike Matlock, Assistant Fire Chief, Jason Stoner and a legally functioning Board of Directors now set in place, the PHVFD hopes to better serve the community by recruiting more volunteers, supplying additional training, purchasing new equipment, maintaining vehicles and eventually lowering their ISO (Insurance Service Office) rating.
According to Mike, the previous administration for the station didn't have a fire department board, which he said, was the major reason the department was placed out of service.
"Being a Title 19, the state requires each fire department to have a Board of Directors," said Mike.
