Scouting BSA name change embraces girls for first time

ELGIN - Colorful handcrafted cars zipped down the track as Cub Scouts from Pack 4185 in Elgin competed against each other for first place during their recent annual Pack Pinewood Debry Race.

Held at the United Methodist Church on Saturday, Jan. 26, the Derby kicked off at noon and within a half hour, one red and black pinewood racer had bested its opponents and pulled off a win.

While the entire race was relatively short, Angie Brandt, Committee Chair for the Pack since 2005, said the skills and knowledge a Cub Scout obtains while participating in an event like the Derby goes way beyond just the race itself.
