BOYS BASKETBALL

Elgin 36 Blanchard 31

ADA - Starting off Regionals in the Consolation bracket the Elgin boys were looking to fight their way into the Area Tournament and stay alive for a State Tournament trip. The Owls started the rugged stretch of play by facing the Blanchard Lions. Elgin had beaten Blanchard earlier in the month and needed another victory to keep playing. Blanchard came out and took a 14-7 advantage after the first quarter. Elgin fought back during the second quarter and closed the gap going into halftime trailing 18-13. The Owls' defense came out and put the clamps on the Lions in the third quarter to take a 26-22 lead into the final quarter. The fourth quarter was basically played on even terms and Elgin pulled out the win to advance. Seneca Coleman scored 12 points in the victory.

Elgin 35 Anadarko 29

ADA - Win and advance is what it takes during playoff basketball. Elgin was facing the rivals from Anadarko for the second time this season. Anadarko won the regular season match-up by five points, but the Owls were definitely looking to turn the table on the Warriors. Elgin and Anadarko battled back-and-forth like rivals should, with Elgin taking a 14-9 advantage into halftime on Friday, Feb. 28. After a low scoring third quarter both teams picked up the pace, but Elgin advanced with the 35-26 win. Seneca Coleman was once again the leading scorer with 10 points for the night.

Elgin 43 John Marshall 38

ADA - With a berth to the Area Tournament on the line, the John Marshall Bears jumped out to a 15-8 first-quarter advantage. Elgin battled back during the second quarter and trailed the Bears going into halftime, 22-18. The Owls came out of the locker room and got the defense cranked up, limiting the Bears to only four points during the third quarter. While the defense was doing the work, the offense was doing just enough to take a 29-26 advantage into the fourth quarter. The Owls and Bears stayed close during the fourth quarter, with Elgin winning and advancing to the Area Tournament with a 43-38 win. Bowin Hargis was the leading scorer for the night, dropping 19 points in the win. Elgin's journey continues at the Area Tournament where the Owls will face Tuttle in Midwest City on Thursday, March 5, at 3 p.m.
