FLETCHER - Service for Monty Cross, 57, of Childress, Texas, was held Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018, at the Sterling High School Auditorium. Burial followed at at the Sterling Cemetery under the direction of the Fletcher Funeral Home. Mr. Cross passed away early Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018, at BSA Hospice of the Southwest in Amarillo surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 57. Monty Dean Cross was born on May 13, 1961, in Chickasha to CE and Sondra Cross. He attended school at Sterling. He spent several years in the oil fields across Texas and Oklahoma in his youth. He and his wife Anita’s true passion was the communications industry where Monty worked in fiber optics as a supervisor and they put in a lot of the communication foundation that we know today across the U.S., primarily Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Mississippi. Monty loved his job and would talk about his work and all of his friends that became life-long friends even years after he could no longer work. He is survived by his wife, Anita Cross, of the home; his father, C.E. Cross and his wife Joy, of Elgin; two daughters: Dana Sanford and her husband Chris, of Ponca City and Crystal Cross and her husband Scott Strausburger, of Ponca City; two sons: Rodney Black and his wife Cathy, of Childress, Texas, and Scottie Black and his wife Crystal, of Hot Springs, Ark.; one sister, Gaylene Morris and her husband Curt, of Fletcher; one niece, Courtney Cross-Brown; Fifteen grandchildren: Tristan and Trenton Delaney, Mario and Alex Carrasco, Jackie, Pacen, and Deaton Seney, Spencer and Gunner Strausburger, Arial, Addy, and Alex Black, Tyler and Jenna Glass, and Paul Culp; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sondra Kay Hayes; one brother, Craig Edwin Cross; and one nephew, Curty Morris.
