Lawton Speedway final was able to get back to racing after having two straight weeks canceled due to the rain. Lawton had a full schedule planned for Saturday, July 10 but had to put the show in high gear to beat the thunderstorms headed for the racetrack. The track was barely able to complete the racing action and the huge fireworks show before the torrential rainfall and high winds hit the track. The OCRS Sprint cars opened up the feature races and went from the green flag to the checkered flag without a caution flag. Steven Shebester started on the pole of the race and never looked back taking the 25 lap feature win. Joe Bob Lee was second followed by Gary Owens, Jeremy Allen and Sheldon Barksdale. After the sprinters cleared the track the Mini Stocks took over and Dakota Davies, after starting in 3rd place, took over the lead and won another feature race. Following Dakota to the line were Carl Mitchell, Dakota Southerland, Brian Stotler and Daniel Hufnage. The Limited Modified class had 30 cars show up for the night and after the dust settled from the heat races the cars that didn’t qualify through the heats had to run a “B” feature. The top four cars transferred but Trey Frie never saw the green flag as he rolled his car multiply times before the race started. Trey walked away from the accident. Once the feature got started Robert Elliot set the pace of the race until series point leader Shane Little worked his way around Robert as the laps wound down and held on to the checkered as Robert made only final run for the win. Robert ended up finishing in second followed by Daniel Cox, Trevor Foley and Justin Cox. The Wingless Limited Sprints took the track as the storm approached the race track and speedway officials were trying to get the other teams to load up before the rain hit the pits. Tanner Conn, starting from the outside pole position, took the win as the rain started to fall. A.J. Smith finished in second followed by Cody Carter, T.J. Herrell and Tommy Holder. Racing action picks up again on Saturday, August 17, when the IMCA 305 RaceSaver Sprints, USRA Modifieds, USRA Limited Modifieds, Mini Stocks and USRA Tuners take to track.
