ELGIN - Funeral service for James “JR” Miller, 81, of Elgin, was held on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at the Crossroads Baptist Church in Elgin with Pastor Curtis Erwin, officiating. Burial followed at the Ft. Sill National Cemetery. Mr. Miller passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at his home in Elgin at the age of 81. He was born Dec. 30, 1936, in Hope, Ark., to Robert and Georgia Johnson. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force and served for three years. He then returned to Big Springs, Texas, until he joined the United States Army in 1960. While serving his country in Germany, he met the love of his life, Cornelia. The two were married on Feb. 15, 1964, in Aschaffenburg, Germany. They were married for almost 50 years when Cornelia passed away in 2013. He enjoyed having coffee with his friends and fellow veterans, volunteering at the Fort Sill National Cemetery, and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed reading books and watching historical documentaries. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family. He is survived by his daughter, Georgia Croke and her husband Patrick, of Elgin; and two grandchildren: Kayley and Micah Croke, of Elgin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cornelia Miller; and his parents, Robert and Georgia Johnson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Fort Sill National Cemetery Foundation.
