CYRIL - Gary Wayne Dodson, 69, of Cordell (longtime Cyril resident) passed away on June 18, 2019, in Oklahoma City.
A memorial service was held June 24, 2019, at Cordell, with Kevin Creed of Bible MB Church, officiating.
Gary was born in Lawton to Homer and Mary Dodson on Nov. 2 1949. He graduated high school from Cyril. He married Connie Miller on Sept. 30, 1995, in Wheeler, Texas.
Gary had numerous occupations over the years - from firefighter for Lawton and Fort Sill to being a roughneck in the oilfield. But his most prestigious job was a professional truck driver for various companies until his retirement in 2013.
Gary was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the Navy and was honorably discharged on Feb. 12, 1973.
He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, working in his garden, cooking, and canning pickles, for which he was quite famous.
Gary was a member of Bible MB Church in Cordell.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Connie of the home; (son) Gerard and (wife) Christy Dodson of Cyril; (daughter) Brooke and (husband) Joshua Caswell of Weatherford; (sister) Margaret Jo Callahan and (husband) Kent Callahan of Blanchard;(granddaughter) Morgan Dodson of Cyril; (grandson) Cord Dodson of Cyril; (grandson) Axel Caswell of Weatherford; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and father-in-law Loyd Miller of Cordell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Homer Dodson; his brothers, Edward and Eugene; a sister Ruth Ann Lair; nieces: VeeDenya Guthrie and Merrilee Smith; and mother-in-law Jane Miller.
