ELGIN - For the second consecutive year residents of Shadow Ridge, Travis and Michelle Bennett, have thrown down the gauntlet inciting a bit of friendly neighborhood competition in efforts to help local children throughout the upcoming school year.

After taking to Facebook on June 19, Travis officially announced the commencement of the 2019 Elgin Community School Supply Challenge.

Travis pointed out that due to state budget cuts over the years, "... schools are providing less and parents are being asked to purchase even more school supplies for their children."

Issuing a plea to all neighborhoods in the Elgin Public School district, the Bennetts on behalf of Shadow Ridge, have set forth the challenge to "raise as many school supplies as possible" by the deadline of Aug. 10.

"For us, education is the cornerstone of the community. We want to put a plea out to the community to give what you can, when you can. It's only going to do good down the road," Travis explained. "Twenty years from now it will benefit the entire community of Elgin because we believe they'll [the children] will be our future leaders."
