LAWTON — Temperatures in the mid-90s greeted the racers and fans at the racetrack on Saturday, July 18. Monty Edwards had the racetrack watered down and ready to go but the high heat and wind, once again, created a dry, slick racing surface. It was a father and son battle at the front of the Limited Modified feature. Race Elliott stayed just in front of dad, Rob Elliott to take the 20-lap feature win. Following the Elliotts to the checkered flag were Shane Little, Mitchell Henson and Rob Bland.
In the IMCA Sprint car division, Cody Hill was out front through the first half of the race until mechanical issues sent him into the pits. Cody's misfortunes allowed Gary Owens to take over the lead and Gary stayed out front to take the win. Josh Toho was second, followed by Dane Fields, Jeremy Allen and Dillion Laden. The USRA Modifieds were back on Saturday night and Kale Westover picked up another victory. The win was Kale's fifth win of the year. Harold Winton Jr., Dylan Ballard, Travis Bragg and Mike Little rounded out the top five finishers on the night.
Dakota Davies continued his domination of the Mini Stock Division, picking up his sixth win in eight attempts. Dustin Southerland, Richard Pece, Brian Stotler and Dakota Southerland finished in the second through fifth positions in the feature. Lawton Speedway will be back in action on Saturday, July 25, when the IMCA 305 RaceSaver Sprints, USRA Modifieds, USRA Limited Modifieds, and Wingless Limited Sprints take to the 1/4 mile clay oval. Races start at 8:30 p.m.
