FLETCHER — The driver of a truck that crashed into Fletcher’s Elementary School Library walls as children were being released from school Wednesday, May 19, 2021, has been charged in Comanche County District Court with two misdemeanors.

Harmony Marisa Halbrooks, 42, was charged June 14, 2021, with one misdemeanor count of reckless driving and one misdemeanor count of failure to stop for a yield sign.

Fletcher Elementary School students narrowly escaped injury in the May 19 incident when two vehicles involved in a collision struck the side of the school’s library as children were being picked up by their parents at the end of the school day.

Fletcher police and fire rapidly responded to the scene of the collision on Cole Avenue.

Fletcher Police Chief Jason DeLonais told The Chronicle no children were injured in the incident, and there were no major injuries to the drivers of the vehicles. However, DeLonais said, there building suffered minor structural damage from the impact.

The driver of the SUV, with whom police say Halbrooks collided, was taken from the scene by ambulance, but no other serious injuries were reported.
