Donna Oliver

ELGIN - Donna Sue Oliver, 70,  passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019, at her home in Elgin.

She was born on June 26, 1948, in Lawton, to Jeff and Jaunita Glover. She married Robert W. Oliver on August 30, 1968, in Elgin. She grew up in Elgin, attended  Elgin Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1966.

She went on to college and was a part of the first graduating class at Cameron University to achieve a bachelor’s degree. She graduated from Southwestern University with a master’s degree in reading and an early childhood certification. She began her teaching career in 1970 in Apache and taught first, second, fifth and sixth grades for 13 years.

She transferred to Elgin Public Schools as a reading specialist in 1986. There she taught kindergarten and established the Pre-K program, as well. She retired from Elgin in 2005.

Left to honor Donna and remember her love are her husband Robert; her two children: Blake and wife Michelle of Apache, and Brooke  and husband Ashley Newsome of Stillwater.

Donna had five grandchildren: Addison Oliver, Tyler Oliver, Lily Oliver, Kade Holsted and Taylor and husband Justin Cline. She had two great grandchildren: Kennedy and Colt Cline.

She is also survived by in-laws Charlie Bob and Dixie Oliver of Elgin. She was fortunate to have a large loving family that adored her. Donna was also blessed to have Lindsay, Ronnie, Landri Jo and Ryder Owens in her life.

Vickie Mckee was one of her first-grade students who held a special place in Donna’s heart and helped take care of her throughout her illness.

She will be missed greatly by her dog, Bella.

Donna Sue Oliver is preceded in death by her father, mother, aunts, uncles and her grandparents.

Donna positively impacted the lives of many students, teachers and friends. She loved dominoes, watching reality TV, drinking a full pot of coffee and gambling.

Teaching was not just her profession, it was her passion. She was outspoken, stubborn, ornery and had the best “yo mama” jokes. She was a wonderful cook, until she got Robert trained. She specialized in tabouli and steak fingers.

Donna would want family and friends to continue to live life to the fullest and laugh, laugh and then laugh some more!

Donna’s wishes were to be cremated with no funeral services of any kind.  We will be having a celebration of her life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Winter Wishes program at  All America Bank or by mail to Elgin Middle School, P.O. Box 369 Elgin, OK 73538 in honor of Donna Sue Oliver.
