Donald Dean Thompson, 88, of Anadarko, was called home by the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020, in Anadarko. Don was born Sept. 28, 1932, in Carnegie, to Floyd W. and Clara Jean (Chappel) Thompson. Don was in the U.S. Army and proudly served our country during the Korean Conflict. In 1958 he married the love of his life, Melva Jean Sherrill, in Oklahoma City. Together, they made a wonderful, joyful life in this world. Don worked for Public Service Co. of Oklahoma, at the Washita plant, for more than 20 years, retiring in 1991. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, being outdoors and traveling, especially to the Rocky Mountains. He was a family man who loved his family very much. He will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Melva; his son, Rodney Thompson, of Anadarko; his daughter, Carla Marshall and her husband, Justin, of Kingfisher; his brother, Dwight Thompson, of Eufaula; two sisters, Darlene Aebischer and Doris Jones; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; along with other relatives and many friends. Don is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Ricky Thompson; and grandson, Jeremy Thompson. Funeral services were held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020, in the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Anadarko. The Rev. Lynn Bellamy officiated. Burial was held at 2 p.m. at Ft. Sill National Cemetery in Elgin. Services were conducted under the direction of Smith Funeral Home in Anadarko. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.smithfuneralservices.com.
