APACHE - Local self-taught contemporary oil painter, Tobias Monroe, began his artistic career with no formal training just four short years ago after the death of his grandmother, Norma Jean, inspired him to want to paint her portrait.
With deep Oklahoma roots, Tobias was raised in Apache and is a member of the Comanche Tribe. Many of his pieces focus on the iconic image of the American buffalo since it played such an important role as part of his heritage. Similar in style to artist Georges Braque, well known for his role in the creation of cubism along-side Pablo Picasso, Tobias produces a wide range of colorful abstract art.
