CYRIL - A memorial service for Billie JoAnn Gibson, 55, of Cyril, was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019, at Calvary Temple in Cyril.
JoAnn passed away on Monday, Feb. 18, 2019, in Oklahoma City, at the age of 55.
Billie JoAnn (Mansel) Gibson was born July 1, 1963, in Chickasha, to Bill and Betty (Constant) Mansel. After her parents passed when she was young, JoAnn was raised by her uncle and aunt, Bill and Peggy Brown.
She graduated from Cyril High School in 1981 and married Kent Gibson on Sept. 12, 1981. They were married for 37 years.
She attended Caddo/Kiowa Vo-Tech where she got her LPN degree in 1989. JoAnn worked as a nurse at the Cyril Nursing Home for two years before working at the Oklahoma Blood Institute for one-and-a-half years. She was an ICU nurse at Grady County Memorial Hospital for five years and then went on to obtain her Associate’s Degree from OSU OKC as an RN and became a Critical Care nurse at Integris Baptist for nine years.
JoAnn was a nurse at the Oklahoma Health Department where she retired in November 2018 after 13 years.
She loved to quilt and play cards but spending time with her family - especially her grandkids - was her favorite pastime.
She is survived by her husband, Kent Gibson, of the home; a son, Koby Gibson and his wife Ashley, of Cyril; an uncle who raised her, Bill Brown, of Cyril; a brother, Dale Mansel and Leanne, of Louisana; a sister, Michelle Wein and her husband Paul, of Alabama; and three grandkids with one on the way: Hadley, Audrey, Jax and baby Gibson.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Bill and Betty Mansel; her aunt that raised her, Peggy Brown; and a brother, Mark Mansel.
