ELGIN - An option to purchase two new buses met with unanimous approval during the June 6, Elgin Public School Board of Education meeting.

Jumping ahead to the general business agenda, Superintendent Nate Meraz presented cost, savings and service options before members voted, selecting the cheaper of the two bids offered.

Going with two Bluebird gasoline models from Ross Transportation provided a savings of $2,700 per bus. On top of that savings, Nate informed the board that the buses would also be easier to service since Ross is based out of Oklahoma City and members agreed.

During discussion, it was mentioned that Lawton Communications will soon be installing up-to-date radios in every EPS bus for safety purposes. Upon installation, the school will have their very own radio frequency which provides “good coverage” and improves communication.

Also on the list to vote on for purchase was a 2019 F-350 and a 2019 Ford Explorer.
